Join FSEEE’s James Johnston and Zella, his two-and-a-half-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback, as they seek to visit every national forest coast-to-coast. James is meeting with agency personnel, citizens and local conservation groups to learn about Forest Service success stories and challenges. Forest Canapé is James’ day-to-day chronicle of his journey.

Some information about the tour from James:

Please! Drop me a line and tell me something about your favorite national forest. I am eager to meet anyone and everyone who is involved with the management of national forests. I hope we can run into one another this summer.

About us: I have worked for Forest Service Employees for Environmental Ethics for two years. I am very close to completing an MS in Forest Resources at Oregon State University. I am a native Oregonian. My major claim to fame (so far) is that I have backpacked across every wilderness area in Oregon. I plan to spend at least part of my time on this tour hiking and taking photographs of the diverse landscapes that make up the national forest system. I have also brought my fly rod. I welcome any tips about neat places to visit and people to meet.

Zella is a two and a half year old Rhodesian Ridgeback. She is aloof with strangers but very friendly with dogs and people once she gets to know them. She likes hot weather and eating.

What you can do:

  • Come join me at some point!

  • Recommend to me scenic and interesting places to visit in NV, UT, CO, WY, MT and ID.

  • Recommend to me Forest Service (or BLM) employees you think I should meet.

  • Recommend to me questions to pose to Forest Service folks.

  • Put me in touch with local environmental groups that might be interested in hosting a short slide show or get together.
